Rachel send they were investigators, not people that normally arrest people. Do you know much about them? To me, they look like bunch of unprofessional, untrained thugs.
Yes. They do investigations into smuggling and human trafficking. They do in depth investigations that require many hours of research and warrants before arrest. This is what I mean by they are not used to grabbing people off the streets w/out due process. The immigration enforcement agencies are teaching the investigative agencies how to do down & dirty immigration policing.
Bizarre. Doesn’t that give an incentive to anyone being arrested to resist arrest so then they’ve committed a criminal act and will then be arrested but subject to Miranda? I know it’s not that simple but the logic is nuts. I am NOT advocating for violence. At some point, they will go after the wrong person or in the wrong situation and it will go very sideways very quickly and a lot of people will get hurt. We should not be putting civilians or law enforcement in that situation. I would not want to be a LEO in this environment.

Can you write about law enforcement jurisdiction? As I recall any LE officer has authority conferred by statute, and it calls for an analysis of both SUBJECT MATTER JURISDICTION and GEOGRAPHIC JURISDICTION. For example, in my home state of Ohio, the LEOs of the Ohio State Division of Wildlife have NARROW SUBJECT MATTER JURISDICTION (mostly fishing and game laws) but BROAD GEOGRAPHIC JURISDICTION (including private property). Contrast this with a county sheriff, who generally has BROAD SUBJECT MATTER JURISDICTION (most Ohio Revised Code crimes) but NARROW GEOGRAPHIC JURISDICTION (it’s limited to the physical boundaries of the county that empowered this officer). Subject matter and geographic jurisdiction are strictly defined by statute. Also, any jurisdiction— local, state or federal— cannot agree to mutual aid pacts without some statutory authority. Basically, the ability of the LE agency to enter into any contract, including mutual aid pacts, is rooted in the statutes that established or created the LE agency in question. Always look for the source of the authority to enforce laws, - the “which laws” or subject matter, and the “where laws” or geographic area where the LE officer has authority. Plus look for the LE agency’s authority to enter into a contract.
I have done much of this work. Going back to authority statutes etc. You are not grasping the fact that the agencies have been taken over by corrupt people. They do not care about statutes and such. They don’t even understand all this stuff and they do not care.
Thought about you when I read two articles from The Atlantic and the New Republic. Some ICE personnel were interviewed, and talked about how Steven Miller’s 3,000 a day arrest quota, and guilt over what they were doing was lowering morale.
While the comment section filled with people asking, “Why can’t these agents resign if they don’t like their job?!”, I read this article, and understand why— most agents would not be employable at most jobs anyway!
The deliberate mixing of the varied skill sets and legal jurisdictions, that’s what makes my hair stand up! The stunt with the New Jersey mayor, plus two or maybe three other sets of “cops”, well, at least nobody shot anybody!
I read his stuff. I spoke with Jessica Pishko (expert) on it. We both agreed that he is assuming a great deal & portraying it as inside knowledge. There are statements that simply are not true, & it feels like he is stoking violence.

If they are arresting people, don’t they have to read them their Miranda rights?
Great question. Not if the crime is an immigration violation. Miranda is for criminal law.
